The Art Hour moves visitors with unique experience and storytelling by King Concept

Aalst (Belgium), 13 December 2019 – King Concept, specialist in entertainment design, played a major part in the creation and production of Het Kunstuur. This popular exhibition has been launched recently by the brothers Hans and Joost Bourlon to make art more accessible to a wider audience. In just one hour, visitors view 32 artworks of 16 Belgian painters in the Heilige Geestkapel (Mechelen). Every painting is illustrated with music and stories by well-known Flemish stars like Jo De Meyere, Tom Boonen, Goedele Liekens, Pascale Naessens, and many others.

The Founders of King Concept, Piet De Koninck and Wouter Verhulst, have developed during many years successful musicals, shows and attractions up to complete theme parks for Studio 100 and Plopsa. King Concept now offers its creative and production services to the wider international market. Shaping  unique and memorable experiences is their mission, and Het Kunstuur perfectly fits this with its visitor-centric approach.

Hans Bourlon, who initiated and inspired Het Kunstuur, comments: “This project is close to my heart so expectations are very high. We enjoyed years of successful cooperation with Wouter and Piet of King Concept, so we have not doubted a minute to assign them the creative side and technical implementation. It was a challenge to show more than 30 pieces of art in a relatively small space to as many visitors as possible, whilst offering them a memorable experience. King Concept created an original concept with strong visuals and storytelling which appeal to young and old. They managed the staging, lighting and production with a team of specialist partners. I value our pleasant cooperation and I am truly impressed by the result, as are the many visitors.”

King Concept’s expertise and complementarity results in a perfect balance between practice and creativity. Every detail is meticulously planned and designed from the visitor perspective, upon entering the building to the exit. Technical Director Wouter Verhulst says: “Alongside the creative concept,  the technology side with projection, lighting and audio, is an important key to the success of such project. All of this is discretely hidden inside decors, design and signage so the visitor can fully enjoy the tour, with fitting music by Dirk Brosé and smart direction by Frank Van Laecke. Het Kunstuur wants to bring art to a wider audience, and we achieved this through an immersive one-hour experience, guiding visitors with personal storytelling by well-known Flemish stars they can relate to.”

Warm thanks to all partners who contributed to Het Kunstuur: Showtex, Painting With Light, Line Reclames, Matmatmat, Roux Meubel-projekten, Guide.ID, and Studio 100 Staff
